Christmas on the Sunshine Coast

This bit of footage was caught at Mooloolaba beach on Wednesday night, the band was the Salvation Army, Salvos as they are affectionately known in Australia.

Christmas is very different in the Southern Hemesphere, the main difference it is hot and the middle of summer, the children are off for their long summer vacation.

This holiday season we have sat on the beach watching a Carol Concert, been to an open air movie in a local suburban park.  Christmas Eve we will head to the beach to watch Santa be rowed along the sea front by Surf Club staff, see the children and give them lollies (sweets) and then watch a big firework display.

The tree goes up early as the houses are so much bigger, the tree doesnt seem to get in the way.

Christmas day we will go to the beach for a swim, then meet up with friends for a seafood, cold turkey/ham and salad lunch, and then party in the evening.

New Year is a  HUGE event as many of you will have seen the Sydney fireworks, the childrens display at 9pm and then the big midnight fireworks are replicated in all the major cities around the country.

HRH The Queen of England visited Brisbane on Monday 24th October, 2011

The WRC was hosted in Coffs Harbour, NSW this year.

The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) pits cars and drivers in a series of two, three or four-day events though some of the toughest, and most varied, conditions on the planet.

The roads on this epic motorsport adventure range from the ice and snow of Scandinavia to the stifling heat of Jordan - over surfaces including packed ice, smooth asphalt and boulder-strewn rocky tracks.

Unsurprisingly, the series is widely regarded as the most challenging motorsport competition in the world. This year the Steven famly from Living Down Under TV, joined the spectators at the Coffs Harbour Stage.

Once you have settled into your new life in Australia you''ll want to start to enjoy the weather, your recreational time and the great outdoors! The lifestyle!

Australia is packed with things to see and do. From going to the beach, to theme parks, whale watching and feeding the dolphins, to going camping and 4 wheel driving – all true aussie experiences!

Fraser Island is the worlds largest sand island.

Fraser Island stretches over 123 kilometres in length and 22 kilometres at its widest point. With an area of 184 000 hectares it is the largest sand island in the world.

Fraser Island's World Heritage listing  ranks it with Australia's Uluru, Kakadu and the Great Barrier Reef. Fraser Island is a precious part of Australia's natural and cultural heritage, it is protected for all to appreciate and enjoy.

Fraser island is a place of exceptional beauty, with its long uninterrupted white beaches flanked by strikingly coloured sand cliffs, and over 100 freshwater lakes, some tea-coloured and others clear and blue all ringed by white sandy beaches . Ancient rainforests grow in sand along the banks of fast-flowing, crystal-clear creeks.

Fraser Island is the only place in the world where tall rainforests  are found growing on sand dunes at elevations of over 200 metres. The low "wallum" heaths on the island are of particular evolutionary and ecological significance, and provide magnificent wildflower displays in spring and summer.

The Carlo Sand Blow is near Rainbow Beach

Carlo Sand Blow was named by Captain Cook after one of his deck crew named Carlo. The unique “moonscape" sand mass covers over 15 hectares and overlooks the towering coloured sands. From the Rainbow Beach water tower at the top of Cooloola Drive, a walking track passes through woodlands to the expansive natural sand blow.

It’s an excellent spot to watch the sunrise or sunset. The 360 degree views are spectacular, to the East has magnificent views of the ocean where one can often see the migrating whales from August to October. To the S.E. is Double Island Point and the cliffs of coloured sand. Fraser Island and Inskip Point are to the North, while Tin Can Bay and the Great Sandy Straits lie to the West.

A bush walk up to Carlo Sand Blow is a must for every visitor. Drive to the reservoir at the top of Cooloola Drive. The Blow is an easy 600m walk from the car park. Spectacular views of the Coloured Sands, Double Island Point and Tin Can Bay are a bonus for your efforts.

When the thermals are right, you will often see Hang Gliders taking off and landing at this beautiful piece of Nature’s sculpture.

We caught up we Big Kev at Tweed Heads on the Border of New South Wales and Queensland.  Kev talks about his time living in the UK, and also show us he special 'Fish Whispering' trick!
