Nearly everyone has heard of Bondi. Just 7 kilometres away from the Sydney CBD, Bondi Beach is the nearest beach to the city. Take a train from the city loop to Bondi Junction. Hop on a connecting bus, or walk the last couple of kilometres (downhill) to Campbell Parade, and the beach.

Bondi is a popular day-resort with Sydney-siders as well as overseas visitors.  You might even spot a Hollywood star working on their tan. During the hottest weekends of summer 40,000 people can visit the beach. The beach itself is a kilometre long. It is a well known spot for surfing and body boarding. You can hire gear right on the beach and have a lesson.  You’ll see people skating, roller blading, or enjoying a game of volleyball. There’s a wide grassy park between the sand and the main street- Campbell Parade.

Bondi is the first of the southern beaches. Walk from the north end of the beach, to South Head, and you’ll catch stunning views to the ocean from the cliffs; and great views of Sydney Harbour. Or take the popular 6 km walk down through Tamarama, Bronte and Clovelly beaches, through to Coogee beach.

A very diverse community, Bondi has long established Italian and Jewish populations. New Zealanders have also traditionally migrated to Bondi in large numbers. In fact it’s such a well known cliché, that if a local finds out you are a ‘kiwi’ living in Bondi- they will think it’s hilarious. Accommodation costs in Bondi reflect its popularity. In the year to May 2010 the median houses price in Bondi was $1,400,000; in Bondi Beach $1,477,000; and in North Bondi $1,655,000. The overall Sydney median price in the same year was $1,200,000.

Families living in Bondi can choose from a variety schools .There are 2 public primary schools, at Bondi and Bondi Beach and a public high school nearby at Dover Heights. Galilee Catholic School teaches primary through secondary classes, as does co-educational Jewish school, Kesser Torah College. The new Reddam House selective secondary school campus is at Bondi, and there are several other excellent  public and private schools in surrounding suburbs.
