Popular Scarborough Beach is just a 20 minutes from Perth CBD, on the ‘sunset coast’ of the Indian Ocean. Hop on the number 400 or the 408 bus. It’s a sought after residential suburb as well as a popular day resort and tourist destination. On a sunny weekend (and let’s face it, most Perth weekends are sunny) The stunning long stretch of white sand beach is always busy with kids building sandcastles, games of volleyball and people just relaxing with a good book or yakking with a good friend. In the breezy afternoons the wind and kite surfers come out to play. |

As a place to live, Scarborough is well on the way up. It wasn’t always considered very flash but housing prices have soared recently, driven by redevelopment in the area and the popularity of real beachfront property worldwide. Scarborough is still the best priced urban beach-side living in Perth. The City of Stirling's Scarborough Beach Urban Design Master Plan, just released, outlines a $53 million dollar revamp of the beach precinct shopping and cafe areas. Families with young children moving to Scarborough can choose from two primary schools in the immediate area: Scarborough Primary and St John’s Primary. St Mary’s Anglican Girls School takes pupils from kindergarten to year 12, 2 kilometres away at Karrinyup, and there are a number of other choices in nearby suburbs. Like most areas in the sports mad land downunder, there are plenty of sports clubs in Scarborough: volleyball, tennis, cricket, lawn bowls, Seagulls Junior Football, Scarborough Netball just to mention a few. Much of the local sporting action happens at Abbett Park, right by the beach. |
